I’m answering probably the most-asked social media question I get from wedding professionals.
What social media platforms should I be on for my wedding business? Do I have to have TikTok? Should I still use Facebook?
The questions go on from there. And the answer is layered for me. Because I like social media marketing to meet wedding professionals where they are at in terms of capacity and revenue. So let’s break down a few scenarios.
If you are doing social media on your own, on top of a full schedule: Pick the platforms you like best, or that get the best SHORT-TERM turnover. For most, that is Instagram and Facebook.
I say pick the platform you like, because after a busy day of client work, you are more likely to go on the platform you can tolerate best! For example, if you know every night you are going to be scrolling TikTok from 8:30pm-9:00pm, then there is an increased chance that you may have the capacity to do a TikTok post in that time! That’s me just trying to meet you where your at, and create a realistic plan.
Now I also said, select the platform that gets the most current turn-over. You can view your Google Dashboard if you have one setup, your platform analytics or your own inquiry data to determine where your inquiries are coming from. If you received 3 inquiries that booked last quarter from Instagram, and 1 that booked from TikTok, that means Instagram may be a better use of your limited time.
Here’s the next scenario…
If you plan on or are outsourcing social media and have the budget to do it: I view social media like my makeup- more is always more, especially if you can afford to have your content optimized for each platform. An ideal scenario? A meta (Instagram and Facebook) strategy, a TikTok strategy and a Pinterest strategy. If corporate events or destinations fall into your business model, LinkedIn as well. Can’t do it all? Start with Instagram and Facebook, and mirror vertical video content where appropriate.
My ideal social media suite would look like this:
Meta: Instagram and Facebook content, mirroring to both platforms.
TikTok: Original, vertical video content for TikTok. (Can be the same as your Meta reels where appropriate.)
Pinterest: A dedicated Pinterest strategy, focused on your blogs, website and search terms.
LinkedIn: If corporate business is a part of your portfolio, a presence on LinkedIn is recommended, with content 1-2x a week, if not more.
But remember…
Being burnt out is not a strategy. Make sure your social media strategy can meet you where you realistically are at.
